Text: 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 (NKJV).
14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.
The Message
The Pursuit of God: Seeking the Face of God I.
Seeking the face of God implies pursuing a close and personal relationship with God and seeking to abide in His presence continually. It is to be intentional in seeking a close walk and an intimate basking in His presence. It is focusing on building and growing in God’s character of holiness and glory. It is beyond seeking the hand of God, which is asking for gifts and benefits from God. God desires that we seek His face and He will open His hand to us by blessing us. He told the children of Israel to “pray and seek My face”and He will hear from heaven and bless them. (2 Chronicles 7:14). The Psalmist responded to God’s instruction, that He will always seek His Face.
“When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” Psalm 27:8.
God prefers us seeking His face than His hand. When we seek His face, we focus on the Giver rather than the gift. That is why He tested Abraham to know who was the King in His life: God the Almighty, the Giver or the beloved covenant child, Isaac, the gift. He told Abrahm to sacrifice the gift to the Giver on the altar, thereby showing God that the Giver is the King. (Genesis 22). Thank God he passed the test.
When Jacob asked for God’s blessing, God rather showed him His “face”, and he therefore called the place of His encounter, Peniel, the face of God. Blessings and favors followed. (Genesis 32:22-32).
Seeking the face of God is also synonymous to seeking His way. When Moses asked God to show him His way, God manifested His presence to Him in an unprecedented way. (Exo 33:13-23). It is also seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness. (Matthew 6:33). Let us pursue God by seeking his face. When we get His face, His hand will be a bonus.
Prayer
Father, please show me your face!
Confession
I will seek the face of the Lord all the days of my life and I will enjoy the blessings of His hand.
Reflection
Seek the face of God rather than His hand. If you get the face, He will give you His hand.
